Auli is a comparatively recent addition to the tourist map of India. Located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand among snow capped mountains, this small town is fast becoming one of the major tourist attractions of Uttarakhand. The main attraction of Auli is skiing. It is considered by many to be the best skiing slope found in Asia. Skiing in India is catching up as a popular winter sport. A ropeway from Joshimath to Auli is one of the longest in India, extending to 4.15 kilometers. Auli is also the venue for the National Winter games in the months of February and March. Among the other interesting aspects of Auli is the grazing land spread over 6 kilomteres, known as Byugal in the local language. A large number of colorful flowers blossom during the monsoon.
The population of Auli in Uttarakhand is composed of Tibetans belonging to the Bhotiya ethnic group. Hinduism is the chief religion practiced here.

There are many scenic and interesting spots around Auli. Joshimath, also called Jyotirmath is the site of one of the four religious centers established by the Hindu religious saint Adi Shankara. Badrinath, and Hemkunda sahib are among the famous religious centers located close to Auli. The valley of flowers is known for the colorful flowers that blossom there.
Pithoragarh is another important tourist destination near Auli. Pilgrims to Kailash Manasarovar trek through this scenic town. The town of Bageshwar has many historic temples including the Baijnath temple, believed to have been built by the Pandavas. Almora is another important district near Auli.     Himalayan Mountaineering Institute--


    This institute is an interesting tourist spot offering information about mountain climbing and the history of mountaineering in the region. Mountaineering gears are on display here along with rare pictures related to Mt Everest and other important mountain expeditions. The institute was established in1954 after the successful conquest of Mt Everest, and offers training in mountaineering and rock climbing.


    Bhutia Busti--
    This beautiful monastery situated on CR Das road was transferred in 1879 from its original location on the observatory hill. The monastery has an interesting library that contains many old Buddhist texts and scrolls.

    Climate in Khandala is more or less pleasant throughput the year. Summers ranging from April to June are generally mild and winter months from November-February are cool. Heavy southwestern monsoons hit the place between June and September. It is best to visit the place during the months between October and May.
    History of Khandala
    Information regarding the origin of Khandala is not much vividly available. Chhatrapati Shivaji, the originator of the first Maratha Empire, ruled the territory around Khandala. Presently it came under the control of the Peshwa rulers, who discovered the second Maratha Empire. It was eventually taken over by the British when they routed the Peshwas.
    How to Reach Khandala
    Khandala does not have its own airport. The nearest airport accessible to the people of this hill resort is at Pune, at 69 km away and the nearest railway station is at Lonavala. As Lonavala is located on the main railway line between the major destinations of Mumbai and Pune, all trains serving between the two cities halt here and it is easier for the travelers to access Mumbai and Pune. It is three hours travel from Lonavala to Mumbai and a four-hour train ride from Lonavala to Pune. Khandala is also connected by good bus services to Mumbai and Pune by road.

    Kullu is also a major hub of Himalayan Adventure Sports activities. Kullu Valley is recognized all over the world for Heliskiing.     The early history of Kodaikanal dates back to 14th century AD when occupants of Palani foothills flew to Kodai to escape the invasion of Tipu Sultan and dominance of the plains. Lieutenant B. S. Ward, an inspector, was the first ever European to come to Kodaikanal in the year 1821 with a view to develop a hygienic and sanitized place around Madurai in order to save the missionaries working in southern Tamil Nadu from the scorching heat and sporadic epidemic diseases. The place was easily reachable from Madurai and it enjoyed a pleasant climate and eventually gained popularity among the immigrants.
    HISTORY---
    In 1834, the Madurai Collector built a small bungalow at Devadanapatti. By the second part of the 19th century, churches and other colonial structures started coming up in and around Kodaikanal. The Union Church built in 1895, La Providence, Church for Anglicans in 1860, and many bungalows were among them. The lake at Kodaikanal was formed in 1863 by Sir Vere Hendry Levinge, who was the collector of Madurai during that time. He later retired and settled in Kodaikanal. He also brought the first boat to the lake and began a boating club here.

    In the year 1875 Kodaikanal saw its first steam engine. A railway line from Chennai was extended to Tirunelveli (598 km) and a station was built at Ammainayakkanur.     Very little is known about Coorg history. The Lingayat rajas ruled over this magnificent territory since 1600 A.D. onwards and thus established their capital at Madikeri where they also erected a fort made out of mud. In the year 1785 A.D, Tipu Sultan attacked with a huge army and devastated the entire kingdom of the Coorg. After a span of four years, with the assistance of British, Coorg regained their lost empire and the task of rehabilitation was undertaken by Raja Veerarajendra.     After the Anglo-Nepalese War, the Kumaon hills came under the rule of the British. In the year 1841 Naini Tal was founded by P.     History:
    The history of Mahabaleshwar takes us to the year 1215 when it was visited by King Singhan of Deogori. Around 1350, a Brahmin dynasty took over power and gave the area harmony and prosperity. Mahabaleshwar later on was annexed by the Maratha family of Chandarao More in the middle of the 16th century which built the famous Mahabaleshwar Temple. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj defeated Jaoli and Mahabaleshwar and constructed the famous Pratapgad Fort in the year 1656. After the end of his rule, the Peshwas ruled this place until the 19th century. 

    In the year 1819, Mahabaleshwar was included in the territory of the Raja of Satara and it was from 1828 that Mahabaleshwar was regularly visited in succession beginning with Sir John Malcolm and then by Arthur, Carnac, Frere and many others after whom the famous points in Mahabaleshwar are named.
